Biscuit Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe
This Sloppy Joe Biscuit Casserole combines a rich and savory sloppy joe filling with melty cheddar cheese and golden biscuits baked right on top. It has all the classic sloppy joe flavors in an easy casserole that can be scooped and served straight from the pan.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 1 medium yellow onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef (I used 90/10)
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- 1 (8 count) can biscuits not Jumbo or Grands
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Heat the avocado oil in a large oven-safe skillet (I used a 12-inch cast iron) over medium-high heat.
- Add the onion and green bell pepper. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, salt, and black pepper. Stir well, then simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the sloppy joe mixture.
- Arrange the biscuits on top, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
- Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- If you do not have an oven safe skillet, transfer the sloppy joe mixture to a casserole dish before adding the cheese and biscuits.
- Leave a little space between the biscuits since they will expand as they bake.
- Avoid using jumbo style biscuits as they require a longer baking time.
- Refrigerate: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freeze: Freeze the casserole in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat: Reheat individual portions in the microwave until warmed through, or reheat larger portions in the oven at 350°F until hot.
